Panel 1: In
the title panel of this Sunday-style colour comic, Barbara squinches
her eyes shut, grits her teeth, and vibrates with anticipatory dread.
Behind her, we can see the title page of a student essay. The title is,
"My Turn to Torture You!" Someone has written on the paper, in
red ink, "West of Bathurst" (circled, with at arrow pointing at the
essay's title) and "by...Kari...Maaren...." Panel 2: Barbara sits at a table, a pile of essays and a red pen in front of her. Panel 3: She reaches cautiously out towards the pile. Panel 4: She continues to reach towards the pile, her arm trembling. Panel 5: As Marie approaches, Barbara makes a mighty effort and forces her hand unsuccessfully towards the pile. Panel 6: Marie crosses her arms and stares at Barbara. Panel 7: Barbara: Picking up the first term paper is always the hardest part. Once you start the actual marking, your brain goes numb. Marie [walks away]: I see. Alt-Text: Marking is nature's own brain tranquiliser. Go to commentary |
