I should note, just for fun, that I began drawing these comics before the weather gods decided to dump snow all over Toronto; I therefore left the ground bare, if icy. Now, of course, I'm sitting here awaiting the beginning of a giant storm and thus the arrival of yet more snow. The sequence in the comic takes place on Christmas Eve afternoon. Let us pretend that the snow is all going to be gone by then. Aren't alternate universes amusing?

Panel 1: Rahim and Marie are sitting on the icy ground of the parking lot behind Davies College.

Marie: I wish the ambulance would come. You're shaking.

Rahim [examines his trembling hand]: So I am.

Panel 2: Rahim holds his hand up in front of his eyes.

Rahim: Interesting.

Marie: I don't understand how you're so much calmer than I am.

Panel 3:

Rahim: It's not unusual. You were far calmer than I was last year when you were hit in the face with a door.

Marie:
True.

Panel 4:

Marie: Of course, I was unconscious.

Rahim: And thus extremely calm.

Alt-Text: Now that I think of it, it's funny how a student talking about "last year" will generally mean something quite different from anyone else mentioning the same thing. To a student, "last year" = "last school year." Marie did, in fact, get hit in the face by a door THIS year...but neither she nor Rahim thinks about it that way.
