Panel 1: In
the Davies College common room, just before dinner--which we know
because the Junior Fellows are wearing their robes--Marie approaches a
young man and hands him a slip of paper. Marie: Andrew...here's your victim's name. Andrew: Ooh...! Panel 2: Andrew reads the slip. Andrew: Wait a minute...I don't know this person. I need to trade. Marie: You can't. Panel 3: Jackie is nearby. Andrew: Sure, I can. Yo, Jackie: wanna swap? Marie: No, you actually can't. You'll mess up the carefully constructed circle of murder. Just listen-- Panel 4: Barbara and Rahim watch all this going down. Barbara: How long before she starts screaming hysterically and waving a machete? Rahim [looks at his watch]: What time is it now? Alt-Text: This happened for real one year; two of the participants switched victims without telling anyone. Since the participants are arranged in a single loop (A kills B kills C kills D kills A), the swap caused two mini-loops to come into existence, and the victims eventually had to be reassigned.
