Panel 1: In
the title panel of this Sunday-style colour comic, Casey, Marie, and
Barbara are all curling. They're wearing uniforms labelled "West of
Bathurst." Casey has just delivered a stone. Marie and Barbara are
rather incompetently clutching brooms. Marie is about to be hit by the
stone; Barbara is pointing at it instead of sweeping.
Panel 2: Marie
and Barbara are sitting on the couch in the Puffy Couch Room at Davies
College, watching TV. They have a bowl of popcorn between them. Casey
approaches.
Casey: The Olympics? What's on?
Barbara: Women's curling.
Panel 3: Casey sits between them and picks up the popcorn.
Casey: I like curling.
Marie: It's fun to watch.
Barbara: Look...a middle-aged lady is sliding slowly across the ice.
Panel 4:
Marie: Don't sweep there. Sweep there. No...there!
Barbara: Hurry...hurry...hard...hard...
Panel 5: Marie leaps to her feet.
Marie: Wow! Something clicked and went boom.
Barbara: They hit the yellow thingy with the yellow thingy! They forgot the red thingy!
Panel 6:
Marie: I think they were aiming for the yellow thingy.
Barbara: But the red thingy is still in the thingy.
Panel 7:
Casey: Does either of you know anything about curling at all?
Marie: No. Duh.
Barbara: That's why it's fun to watch.
Alt-Text:
My understanding of curling is about on par with my understanding of
quantum physics. Nonetheless, I am fascinated by the former, if not the
latter. I can't really adequately explain why. Just...watch a game.
It's frickin' mesmerising.
