Panel 1: In
the title panel of this Sunday-style colour comic, Rahim watches as
Marie walks along, whistling and throwing books onto the floor behind
her. In handwriting on the wall are the words "West of Bathurst" (with
question marks next to them and an arrow pointing from the words to the
books) and "by Kari Maaren."
Panel 2: Rahim watches Marie work in her carrel in the Davies College basement. She has an enormous stack of books on her desk.
Panel 3:
Rahim: Dare I ask?
Marie: It's my Ph.D. research.
Panel 4: Rahim leans down to take a closer look at the pile.
Marie: More accurately, it's all the books I have to read but haven't yet. I keep them in a pile.
Rahim: Why?
Panel 5:
Marie: Well, I'm hoping that they'll eventually reach all the way to the ceiling. That would just be really, really cool.
Panel 6: Rahim narrows his eyes at Marie, who grins guiltily.
Panel 7:
Rahim: Are you ever going to read--
Marie: Probably not.
Rahim [turns away]: I shall now go bang my head on things for a bit.
Alt-Text:
My piles generally didn't get that tall, but mostly because they would
fall over and form a sort of carpet. I'm always more comfortable when I
can't see my floor.
