Panel 1: In
the title panel of this Sunday-style colour comic, Barbara is dressed
as Hester Prynne, scarlet "A" and all. Three young people, also dressed
as seventeenth-century Puritans, point at her disapprovingly. This is
all happening against a backdrop of Davies College bricks. The words
"West of Bathurst by Kari Maaren" are carved into the wall.
Panel 2: Barbara
is sitting in the Davies College common room, reading the newspaper. A
young woman sits beside her on the couch and holds out her hand.
Woman 1: Hi! I'm Cynthia. I'm a new Junior Fellow.
Barbara: I'm Barbara. I'm an alum.
Panel 3: Cynthia withdraws her hand.
Cynthia: ...Oh.
Panel 4: Cynthia retreats behind the couch and is joined by a man and a woman.
Man 1: Who's that? Does she live here?
Cynthia: No, she's an alum.
Woman 2: ...Oh.
Panel 5: Another man appears. Barbara is looking decidedly jaded.
Man 1: What's she doing here, then?
Cynthia: I think they're allowed.
Woman 2: Should they be?
Man 2: I'm scared.
Panel 6: Barbara swings up onto her knees and reaches out towards them.
Barbara [very loudly]: UNCLEAN!
Panel 7: The Junior Fellows are gone. Barbara reads the newspaper as Rahim approaches.
Barbara: They make it so easy.
Rahim: You know, you may be the reason new Junior Fellows treat alumni like that.

It's funny how much less cruel that sort of thing seems when you're the
one complaining about the filthy outsiders invading your community.
