Panel 1: In
the title panel of this Sunday-style colour comic, Steve stares in
horror at several people who are walking straight at him: Barbara
(carrying an accordion), Wendy (hands on her hips), a black-haired
white woman (holding a cell phone), a black-haired brown man (with a
banjo string), and someone (mostly unseen) waving a recorder. Marie is
watching all this go down. The words "West," "of," "Bathurst," "by,"
"Kari," and "Maaren" are scattered throughout the panel.
Panel 2: Steve and Marie are sitting on the puffy couch in the Davies College Puffy Couch Room.
Steve: You haven't been around as much this year.
Marie: I've had...stuff...to deal with.
Panel 3:
Steve: Ah.
Marie: Doesn't matter. How's it going with your band?
Steve: Wellll...
Panel 4:
Steve: Technically, I'm at a rehearsal right now.
Marie: That seems unlikely.
Steve: In the chapel.
Marie [points]: Which is over there.
Panel 5: A blonde white woman and the man from the title panel approach.
Steve: Yep.
Woman 1: Steve! Claire still says she won't sing back-up.
Man 1: And Janet broke another banjo string.
Panel 6: Several more people, including Barbara, Wendy, and the woman from the title panel, turn up.
Woman 2: Tom just texted to say he forgot about the rehearsal. Also, he's in Sarnia.
Wendy: I don't like this song; can we do something bouncier?
Barbara: There may be a spider in my accordion.
Panel 7:
Steve: Too many cooks? Child's play. Too many musicians...
Woman 3 [to Steve]: James stormed out; there may be room for you now.
Alt-Text: Of
course, the first challenge is finding a time for all of them to meet
together in a room. I sort of suspect this conversation is taking place
at midnight on a Sunday.
