...And I shall underline that little piece of incomprehensible weirdness, which must read as almost Dadaesque to someone who doesn't follow the comic and even many who do, by announcing that I didn't quite place in the Friends of the Merril Short Story Contest, but I did end up as a finalist, so yay. The announcement is here. Eventually, anyone who likes will be able to read the winning stories by Sarah Ennals, Jason S. Ridler, and Dr. Philip Edward Kaldon. My story involves a sentient machine yelling frantically at the universe, so it's quite like my life, really.

Panel 1: Marie and Barbara enter Marie's apartment. Casey, who is also there, raises a hand to wave to Barbara, who is still wearing her Sherlock Holmes outfit.

Marie [to Casey]: Look what followed me home.

Casey: Oh, hey, Barbara. What--

Panel 2: Barbara whips what appears to be a dead mouse out of her pocket and dangles it in Casey's face.

Panel 3:
Casey grabs the mouse from Barbara and heads out the door.

Casey: I'll be downstairs, obviously.

Panel 4: Casey is gone. Marie slumps on her futon, her chin in her hands.

Barbara: Fascinating.

Marie: So I guess something significant just happened there, and no one is going to tell me what.

Alt-Text: What worries me is: where on earth did Barbara get that dead mouse from in the first place?
