Panel 1: In the title panel of this Sunday-style colour comic, we have a parody of the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes. The title, "West of Bathurst by Maaren," is done in the style of the Calvin and Hobbes title. We see Barbara, wearing black pants and Calvin's striped red shirt, carrying a box containing a familiar stuffed tiger. Behind her comes Casey, pulling a red wagon containing a pumpkin.

Panel 2: Barbara and Casey have spread newspaper on a table, then disembowelled a pumpkin on top of the paper.

Panel 3: They have carved a scary face on the pumpkin. Barbara reaches for something off panel.

Panel 4: Barbara is holding two much smaller pumpkins. Casey has found some sticks somewhere.

Panel 5: Barbara carves a small pumpkin as Casey gives the big pumpkin stick arms, making it look as if it is raising its hands to attack someone.

Panel 6: Marie enters. Casey grins at Marie as Barbara stands beside him, expressionless. Marie stares at the tableau Casey and Barbara have created: a rampaging jack o' lantern, blood spilling from its mouth as it attacks the helpless little pumpkins, some of which it has already dismembered.

Marie: Clearly, you guys are obnoxiously pleased with yourselves.

Barbara: You have no idea.

Alt-Text: MORE BLOOD. I mean, honestly.
