Sorry for the delay, everyone. I thought I would have all of
Friday to work on the comic, but as it turned out, I had none of
Friday to work on anything. Saturday was devoted in equal
parts to finishing the comic and answering the 53 student e-mails I
received on Friday and Saturday. And yes, I counted.
Saturday, March 30, 2013 | Panel 1: In
the title panel of this Sunday-style colour comic, Marie peeks out from
behind Barbara. On the wall behind them are three signs. The central
one says "West of Bathurst by Kari Maaren." The one to the
left says "Registration," with an arrow beneath the word pointing
left. The one to the right says "Panic Room," with an arrow beneath the word pointing right.
Panel 2: Marie
and Barbara are in a hotel common area, surrounded by people wearing
costumes and carrying bags of books. Marie jumps as she notices a man
dressed in steampunk gear as he tolds a huge gun.
Marie: Aaugh!
Panel 3:
Barbara: What's wrong with you?
Marie: There are people with enormous steam-powered guns! Why are there? Panel 4:
Barbara: Marie, you know what fandom is.You have a tiny Eleventh Doctor in your pocket.
Marie: I know, but...
Panel 5: They watch two elves having a conversation.
Marie: It's different being a fan alone in my room and being a fan in a hotel filled with half-naked people conversing in Elvish.
Panel 6: They stare at all the costumes.
Panel 7:
Barbara: Let's go look at massive piles of books.
Marie: That would please me very much.
Alt-Text:
The funny thing is that at the sorts of conventions I'm likely to
attend, the people in skimpy elf costumes may be just as shy as I am.
